VEHICLE History

Toyota Land Cruiser HJ61 GX in Dark Grey Metallic paint with two owners from new.  Originally purchased at Blandy Toyota on Tenerife.  Always kept in a garage.  All original paint, motor and interior.  It has been well maintained by professional mechanics.  Overall the vehicle is very clean.  Never in an accident nor any noticeable damage to the body or chassis.  Minimal rust and 213,888 kms!!  It has not been used much in the last couple of years but the Spanish vehicle inspections have been passed every six months.

MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION

“1HT” 4.0L turbo diesel mated to the “H55F” five speed manual transmission with manual locking differentials and wheel hubs.  The engine bay is clean with factory matting in good condition.  The engine of the HJ61 GX is very responsive and powerful with the turbo working properly.  All gears shift smoothly.  The clutch and brakes function properly.  The vehicle handles well and the suspension is in good condition.  24 volt electrical system with two batteries.

INTERIOR

The highlight of the HJ61 GX!  The interior color is dark grey with light grey (off-white) seats.  Seats for five, power windows, power door locks, AIR CONDITIONING, pioneer cassette radio, tilting steering wheel, temperature and altimeter gauge (not working, disconnected), and locking glove box.  The dash is complete with all the buttons and controls working properly and without damage or wear.  The headliner is intact and clean.  Clean carpets.  No damage to any seats, driver seat is comfortable.  Non smoking.  All electronics work properly, minus the temp/alt gauge.  AC is cold.  Heater is hot.

EXTERIOR

Dark Grey Metallic paint, code 155.  Original paint and decals with minimal wear and damage to the decals.  No rust present, no deep scratches, no dents, no sun damage.  Original chrome roof rack.  Five doors with split back lift-gate.  Running boards for entry access.  Rear bumper trailer hitch (NATO style).  Wipers and water sprayer function properly, front and back.  Tires in okay condition with 50% use.  Overall well kept Land Cruiser.

TEST DRIVE

Short trip in the mountains on paved roads, no highway – 70 speed limit.  Drives well, handles fine, comfortable suspension, shifted smoothly through all gears.  Overall a pleasure to drive.

THE POSITIVES

It is a complete vehicle and not missing any pieces – original tool set and owners manuals.
The vehicle is original in paint, motor and interior.
It is very clean inside and out.
Low KMS with only 213,888 from new.
Garage kept its entire life.
This is the GX model with many luxury options.
The motor is strong and sounds good.
The drive is comfortable and correct

THE NEGATIVES

The original paint shows scratches, chips, stains, sun fade and three areas with rust (the largest above the driver door the size of a fingertip, the other two from very small paint chips).
The decals show scratches.
The plastic caps on the bumpers are scratched.
The tires are inexpensive with 30-50% tread remaining.  The spare is worn flat.
Small dent on passenger side foot board.
Electrical system has some components not working  (altimeter, temperature gauge) and loose wires below the steering wheel.
The rear passenger window motor was slow and noisey but went up and down completely.
The driver seat is lightly worn and is torn on the side of the grey vinyl by the handle.
The rear bed upholstery is worn but clean.
Underneath there was oil present near and above the drive line, not much but enough to note.
The air conditioning works but is not very cold.

ADDITIONAL SPECIFICS

The engine is the 1HT.
The front seats are equipped with shock absorbers.
No rust on any doors and no dents.
It looks like this vehicle has been used on off road trails but not abused – scratches but no dents.
Driver front door has a sun faded spot above the handle about 3-4cm in diameter.
The VIN on the chassis is present but one digit is difficult to read.  The rest of the papers and badges correspond correctly.
The leaf springs, differentials and brush guard have minor surface oxidation.
The vehicle was first registered on 7 April 1989.

CONCLUSIONS

It requires a mechanical revision to evaluate the oil underneath and electrical issues.
The upholstery needs cleaning on the roof liner and rear bed – normal for age and use.
The small amount of rust needs attention.
It needs new tires.
—->For around 2.000€ this HJ61 can be like new from the factory and dramatically increase its value.
———->It would be very difficult to find such a fine HJ61 GX as this in the future.
